Let the Devil in

Mushroom cloud addiction
Nervous system alight
Anger masks the fear

Do you feel a deep sense of shame? As though you’ve done something terrible? So terrible you clearly deserve to be punished for the rest of your life? Alternatively, have you been deeply harmed? Has your rage over this driven you to punish others?

We learn to lock away that which brings punishment. It lurks in our systems, directing our every move. We are chemically rendered blind to ourselves and others; flailing with volcanic arms and words. We resent those who live the lives that we wish we were brave enough to claim.

We seek the punishment, knowing it is our due. The tired old tale told to all who deviate from the norm in some crucial way. Too bad we so rarely compare notes.

We seek pleasure, to deaden ourselves to the constant sense of impending doom. Until one day, we let the Devil in, and show him a kindness. We look him in his eyes, our eyes, and we shift… unravel… and reform into a web of light with beautiful dark spaces between the lines.
